Aims to encourage local companies and inventors to make the most of their intellectual work through patent registration.

Eligibility

Individuals 1. Must be sole inventor or joint inventors of the inventions

Applicant Company 1. Inventor of the invention shall be a directly related party/parties to the applicant company Eg: Director, Shareholder, Owner or staff..

Company 1. All locally incorporate companies / Hong Kong Permanent Resident 2. Hong Kong Residents permitted to remain in HK for not less than 7 years who have never owned any patents in any countries or territories before

What Kind of Applications will be supported?

All applications for functional patents and inventions with techonolgy elements are eligible.

The implementation agent of the scheme will first conduct a patent search + technical assessment to ensure that there is a reasonable chance of obtaining the patent.

* Not supported: Cosmetic designs

Grant Provided for Approved application

Not more than HK$100,000 or 90% of the sum of the total direct cost of the patent application (including the cost for patent search-cum-technical assessment)

The administration fee aprox 20% of the total direct cost involved in patent application, whichever is lower

The maximum amount of grant which could be used for the patent search + technical assessment and other direct costs of patent application should be about $83,000 out of a maximum grant of HK$100,000.

How will the application be Processed?

Applications will be processed through the implementation agent on a confidential basis.

1. Applicants must provide the implementation agent with details of their idea or inventions. 2. A patent search-cum-technical assessment will be required. 3. Based on the result of the patent search-cum-technical assessment conducted by the implementation agent, the Innovation and Technology Commission will decide whether the applications should be approved. The Commission's decision will be final.
